Listen in, listen Ian!
nja's post has inspired me to look up my dad's family on the 1911 census. I did this in a half hearted way with the 1901 census, and discovered some stuff - like my dad's paternal grandfather being off the census, with his wife shown as head of the household. Well, ten years later he's back from his travels.|
Also, I found his maternal grandmother for the first time. He didn't think they'd arrived from Russia by that time, but they must have done because his mother is shown as 11 years old and born in Lancashire, so I'll have to go back to the 1901 census and check. There's another missing head of house there - Yetta Samuels (born Russia, married for 11 years in 1911) is the head here, so where's her husband who my dad thinks was called Julius? Also, there's a boarder, a 55 year old charwoman called Maggie Clegg.
It's quite fun - I'll have to call him tomorrow with the 1911 news.
