Gig, and juvenilia [Feb. 16th, 2009|11:56 am]
Listen in, listen Ian!
This is probably the best gig you won't bother going to after havng it recommended to you in a livejournal post this year!

The School are ace, and I've waffled on about them here before. Somehow, since the first time I saw them about a year ago they haven't taken over the world, but they have been played on the radio a bit and done a session for Mark Radcliffe on 6 Music. Their first album is apparently going to be released this year.

The School - Let It Slip

Pocketbooks I've also mentioned before, and are also ace. And, as I was surprised and delighted to see as I was checking out my local news over the weekend, one of them saw a UFO recently so be sure to ask her about that at the gig. While wearing a Roswell alien mask.

Pocketbooks - Falling Leaves

I've never heard Let's Whisper, but they're two of The Smittens who I saw last July at the best gig I went to last year, so they should be good. Pelle Carlberg I know pretty much nothing about, but Swedish pop - what can possibly go wrong?

For those of you who for some reason haven't seen fit to sign all your privacy away to a shadowy American website join Facebook yet, there are ticket details here.

In other news, poker innuendo!

You'll have to pay to see my pocket rockets
If you have a big stack it's important to use it properly
You can bully someone with a short stack
etc.

What else?

oooh! I like The School too - I played I Want You Back (rather incongruously) at Rock Steady during a warm-up set a couple of months ago and it's the song that's had the most people asking what it was for a long time!

(also - The phrase poker innuendo sounds far ruder than the phrases that follow!!!)

I love I Want You Back - the first time I heard it was at a gig, and the violin was a little bit higher in the mix than it is on the record, which worked brilliantly.

Erm, yes, point taken. It was great though! Turns out Pelle Carlberg's kind of like a Swedish MJ Hibbert. ish.
