Ouch ouch ouch. [Apr. 10th, 2009|09:44 pm]
Listen in, listen Ian!
This is horrible. I pitch a lot in softball(where the ball isn't soft) and although I've never had this happen to me, it's something you have to be constantly on guard for - I've had the ball shoot back and hit my arm, and I've heard it whistle past my head when I've just got out of the way in time. I'm amazed this guy could get up and walk away from that.

Ack, the cracking sound it made when it hit his head! o_O If batters have to wear helmets, why don't pitchers? Though I guess anyone on the field is at risk, really.

Yeah I had something similar happen to me, with a softball (which, no, isn't soft) when I was 10 or 13, but luckily it wasn't as bad; I wasn't bleeding and I didn't have to go to the hospital. But I did have a really interesting bruise on my forehead for a while after that...

It was my dad I'd been pitching to, too, which made it extra horrible. No wonder he still worries (as he just did last week when I told him I'd started going to softball practice) that I'll get hurt playing sports.

You'll be fine if you aren't pitching. Just remember: use the hand with the glove!

Who are you playing for? Is it in the Manchester League?

Oh I'm not worried. In fact it amused me that my dad was more worried about this bit of news than the other thing I told him, which is that I got a bike. Personally I'm much more worried about getting run over on the road than I am about death by softball :)

Yes, it is in the Manchester League -- I thought of you actually as you're the only reason I knew there was such a thing until I was asked to join a co-worker's team a week ago -- but as only he and I showed up to 'practice' on Sunday I don't know anything else about the team yet. If it even exists!

They're saying now that he has hairline fractures in his skull.
