Will it be chips, or jacket spuds? [Oct. 5th, 2009|11:36 am]
Listen in, listen Ian!
Friday night was Club Popular at Poptimism - all number ones, all night, and it was great. If it was up to me, it would be like that every month, but it's not up to me which is probably for the best really. On Saturday I was feeling a bit rubbish, so I didn't really do anything - I only went out to do boring food and pound shop shopping in Wood Green. WH Smith were selling low energy light bulbs for 10p each though - bargain! I only bought one, because that was how much change I had.

Yesterday S came over in the afternoon and we went for a walk up to Ally Pally, then had what I'm pretty sure will be the last barbecue of the year back at mine. I left the flat door open for the cats to go and have a wander again, but they're such cowards. Spike tentatively came out, then saw next door's cat who is half his size, hissed a bit and went scurrying back into the flat. Lynda was a bit braver, and even came a couple of steps into the garden but she still ran back into the flat pretty soon. Stupid scaredy cats. Of course, as soon as I got back in and closed the door, they started hanging round it pretending they wanted to go out.

Thanks for the earworm!

...will it be salad or frozen peas
will it be mushrooms
fried onion rings
you'll have to wait and see
hope it's chips it's chips
we hope it's chips it's chips...

(words probably wrong from memory)

Ha ha, tell us when it's sold out, why don't you!

Actually that's a bit unfair; someone actually told me last week, but I didn't want to go as it's such an awful venue. Although I suppose I'm one to talk, as the venues they used to play in during the eighties weren't much nicer. I remember wondering whether I would actually get home from the Fulham Greyhound, as my shoes appeared to be so firmly stuck to the floor...

Gah! It's sold out! I didn't even realise that.

What's wrong with the venue? I quite like it.

Might be a perfectly pleasant venue if there are only about half a dozen people there. I generally associate the Buffalo Bar with staring at the backs of people's heads (as the stage is so low), unable to hear the band above the fashionable indie kids' loud conversations, worrying that I'm about to combust/suffocate due to the excessive temperatures and lack of air when it's full, and wishing they sold normal drinks rather that just overpriced bottled lager.

Believe it or not, the venue sells up to a capacity of 150 for gigs; it should really be about thirty people or something. Admittedly Barden's Boudoir is worse in every respect, but I do classify Buffalo Bar as the second worst venue in the world from my own experiences.

Plus I have a grudge against that venue, as I was once on the guest list to see a friend's band but they wouldn't let me in (even when I offered to pay) because they'd accidentally let too many people in and it was full up. Hmmm, well done kids.

does that mean you've upgraded The Scala then?!

Ha ha, sorry, that was poorly phrased; I meant the second worst venue of that size. Deathtrap over-selling hellholes such as The Scala and The Astoria still trump them for the overall unpleasantness of the experience; not to mention Koko...

I'll agree with Koko, but I still love The Scala!

Primitives

ehhhhh..... but who's in the band now? Tracey, obviously, and I'd guess Paul, is this some kind of tribute for Steve Dullaghan, or have they actually reformed?

Re: Primitives

I don't know the exact details. And I've just seen it's sold out, so I can't even go and find out. (Not that I'd know; I wasn't really paying attention to them first time round.)
