Listen in, listen Ian!
There is no worse shop than Boots for it taking ages to get served because every fvcker insists on paying by card for ridiculously low value items. Oi, you, the man in front of me today paying £3.79 for your sandwich and drink with a Visa card! Surely you must carry a bit of cash with you, you aren't the fvcking Queen.

Well, that and there are never enough staff there, and there's always the chance that the person ahead of you is going to want an in-depth comparison of verucca treatments.

I avoid the verucca thing by using the till at the front of the shop rather than the pharmacy till. But yes.

Ah, I always avoid the long queues by shopping at the pharmacy till, which is quite often empty even when there are 20 or so people waiting at the one or two tills near the food.

If you're referring to our mutual branch of Boots, I go there specifically to spend £3 on nothing much on my card when I have no cash.

I have to say I do that with my local (different) branch of Boots - when there's not enough money left to get £10 out.

Thing is, Boots sandwiches are so bloody awful I personally wouldn't buy them unless I wanted somewhere specifically that would take cards. So this may be the thinking here...

Maybe they're collecting points or cashback on the card? My local Boots suffers from these folk too, so I try to use the self service tills wherever possible. I hate shopping rage at lunchtime.

It's funny how you get annoyed at little things. Try to be relaxed, like me.

Cash often isn't actually quicker if your cash is in a purse.

I never carry cash, because I spend it and then don't have a record of where it went. And don't suggest keeping the receipts, because I lose those. I use either credit or debit for *everything*, no matter how small, and then I can access the record via the internet.
But here at least, using plastic money is way faster than using paper (or metal) money. Swipe the card, enter the PIN, you do it, it's done. The card never even leaves your hand! Unlike cash, which has to be counted into the till, and change counted back out to you, etc.

I do this all the time, so I don't have to go to the cash machine as often. How much time does it really add? Can't be that much more time consuming than waiting for the cashier to fiddle about with change. It's not like writing a cheque.
