I did not make this up [Feb. 4th, 2005|08:58 am]
Listen in, listen Ian!
Although my chosen field, that to which I have decided to devote my life is IT, I've never been especially attracted to the security side of things. Important, yes, but not my bag. If I had to categorise myself I suppose I'd claim to be an application developer, or some such.

Even, however, with my lack of specialist knowledge of the security side of affairs, I think I can spot the problem with a screen that says "Enter password, or press F1 not to use password".

Sounds like the computers in old-skool films that would go ENTER SECRET PASSWORD, only for the hero to type in OVERRIDE SECRET PASSWORD and then something like DISPLAY SECRET FILES.

I used to use a green screen when I worked for a bank. I loved it, it being a bit like a film. They then introduced proper PCs, and all of the fun of that job was gone. The PCs were apparently programmed to take a while in processing transactions, so that you had time to try and sell guff to the customer. I hate banks.

hey don't mock it. maybe the point is that the villian wouldn't have thought of something so simple... as 'override secret password'

just like, if we all left our doors unlocked, the common thief would still break into the window because it wouldn't occur to him that the door is unlocked.

or maybe not.
