Listen in, listen Ian!
Hello. I went to see my mum and dad in Bury for christmas, but I'm back now. It was good. On Christmas Day my sister and her family came round, and I played Hungry Hippos for the first time ever. It's great! But my b-i-l and I got told off for making too much noise playing it, which can't be right. It's christmas - you're allowed to make lots of noise. I got presents! I got a t-shirt, a scarf, some choccies, a Likely Lads DVD, a biography of Indira Gandhi, a book of the works of Lord Byron, the latest Bill Bryson book, the latest Pirates! book, a Doctor Who 3-D model making kit, some socks and a tin of rabbit pate. I ate pork pie, chicken liver pate, ham, smoked salmon, meat strudel, cheese, turkey, potatoes roast and new, stuffing, parsnips, chipolatas, bacon, sweetcorn, gravy, profiteroles, creme brulee, chocolate and pizza. Not all at one meal, just over the last few days. Huzzah for conspicuous consumption!

I came back on the train this afternoon, and obviously couldn't be bothered doing proper cooking when I got back, so I made my home made KFC Fillet Tower Burgers which use frozen chickenburgers and potato waffles. I got the only bread rolls that Londis had which have a sell by date of March on them. That can't be right, surely - bread isn't supposed to last three months. Mmmmm, preservatives!

Conspicuous consumption

Your mention of "conspicious consumption" caught my eye as I am getting more and more concerned about the effects it is having on our planet. But I wont write my whole rant here. Why read the book when you can see the movie? ;)

There are so many movies about conspicious consuption... but sadly, even in environmentally friendly, tree hugging Washington state, people are still missing the point:
