What I did at the weekend by Tim [Feb. 5th, 2007|11:59 am]
Listen in, listen Ian!

It was quite a good weekend. Friday evening was Poptimism - chatted a bit,
danced a bit, the usual kind of thing.

On Saturday I stopped off at Camden Town on the way to the Burnt Oak to
Colindale tubewalk. Grr, Camden Town's rubbish isn't it? I know everyone
knows it's rubbish, and I'm not coming up with any stunning insights, but
the tourist faux alternative cr@p is just so tedious isn't it? Christ,
t-shirts that say 'fvck' are just so pathetic - ooh, look at me, I'm
sticking it to The Man with my sweary t-shirt, and I don't care what anyone
thinks. Well, that's lucky, because they think you're a boring d1ck. Go
away.

The bit of Camden High Street south of the underground station is loads
better than the bit noth of it. They just need MVE to move down there and
it would be pretty much perfect.

While I was wandering around I was composing a much bigger post about the
rubness of Camden, including a digression into why Fopp isn't as good as
it's made out to be/used to be. Paucity of stock levels, in brief. However,
as I was a bit early by the time I'd walked up to Chalk Farm, I thought I'd
look for a pub to watch the football that was going on at the time, and so
wandered off to look for one. I didn't find one, but I did find Primrose
Hill, which is lovely and its pleasant high street improved my mood no end.
I didn't quite understand how the geography of it worked though - by
walking north, I seemed to have come out near the zoo. Must go back and
have a proper look round there when I have more time.

The tube walk was good, taking in the Burnt Oak Massive as they did a
pretty poor job of smashing up a phone booth, a couple of parks, the
British Library newspaper archive and a Japanese lifestyle store. Best of
all though, was an abandoned hospital in Colindale - although there were
all signs saying we shouldn't have been there, nobody bothered us as we
wandered round taking pictures of it.

On Saturday evening I played poker chez publicansdecoy and obsessive_katy, which was excellent, and I'm not just saying that
because I won. Obviously I'm partly saying it because I won, but also
because everyone there was ace, and you can leave someone's house in
Lewisham at half past eleven and get home to Northern parts without needing
to go on a night bus.

There are some unsorted, untagged and undescribed pictures of these things
that I dumped on my
Flickr
but the poker ones (and the ones from the Mongolian Barbeque
last Thursday) are friends only as I don't like just putting photos of
people on there without knowing that they're happy for any old perv to look
at - I like only preselected pervs to be able to see my photos. If you're
someone who wants to look at them then let me know - assuming you have a
flickr I'll friend you on there.

Yesterday I went shopping, went to Ladbrokes to watch football on Sky (I go
there instead of pubs because I'm classier than the average bear) and
stayed up too late watching most of the Superbowl. Yawn.

I seen your pics. I don't mind you showing me as long as you don;t mind me showing you. All my ones of you lot are "friends only" too, though.

I think poker nights should be calender marked. They are the bees!

I don't know, I'm out on site still. But I just walked past and saw it. I texted ymof to see what was going on and got "Uh, what?" in response. So they seem to be safe.

Update: Two explosions were heard down the street, and the police have evacuated the whole street. People in our office are okay, but the power there's gone down.

I'm in Covent Garden though. Turns out this was an electrical fire. All sorted now.
