Good weekend [Apr. 30th, 2007|10:45 am]
Listen in, listen Ian!
I barely stood still for any length of time this weekend, but it was good.
I went for food and drink after work on Friday, which is always a good way
to start a weekend.

On Saturday I went up to Nottingham via Watford, seeing loads of people I
haven't seen for ages and spotting what's changed in Nottingham since I was
last there about 2 years ago - the market square has been completely
redone, with modern fountains for drunk people to have water fights in and
the branch of WH Smiths near the Broadmarsh centre isn't WH Smiths any
more. Oh, and Forbidden Planet's moved to Friar Lane. Apart from that not
much is different. All the various ye Oldest Inns in England are still
present and correct, and I went in them all. Nottingham seems to have
become hen and stag night central in the last couple of years as well.

The football at the weekend was of course very good as well. As an
extension of the new tradition of holding a minute's applause in memory of
people, all matches next weekend will be preceeded by a minute's laughter
for Leeds United.

In keeping with the theme of the weekend being good, my train home
yesterday got to London 20 minutes early, and then last night I watched
Howl's Moving Castle on DVD, which was excellent.

I like this idea.

I saw Howls moving Castle last weekend, fantastic! As I work my way through them all I get more confused as to which is my favourite! Princes Mononoke is still up there, as is My Neighbour Totoro.

It's the first one I've seen, but I've had the DVD of Spirited Away without getting round to watching it. I definitely will now.

You forgot another important change which is the presence of a Hotel Chocolat in town.

Excluding the enormous slab, I think the chocolate I bought is more than half gone now.

I very much approve of this Hotel Chocolate and did not steal enough of it. I must find one of these mysterious places and raid it asap.

It's actually impossible not to spend far too much in Hotel Chocolat. On Sunday, ruudboy and I went in there before we had eaten and found ourselves wanting to buy it all, so in an attempt to buy less we left with nothing, ate lots of food, and returned with the aim of buy sensible amounts of chocs. We still bought silly amounts of chocs though.

Go find a Hotel Chocolat and enjoy but prepare for bankruptcy and possibly mild sickness.

I had a very small piece of ruudboy's giant slab of amazing caramel and light and dark and medium chocolate last night. I did my best to contain my animalistic pleasure and got on with watching the film. I did not attempt to get more, because I was afraid it would not stop and I would be there at 5am with a face covered in delicious chocolate and a manic grin. He took the rest of the slab away with him. He has sense. I wonder if there are some in London. I am supposed to be on a diet. I think obviously this chocolate is good quality and THEREFORE it is healthy.

There is at least on Hotel Chocolat in London. I went there a few weeks ago. Due to my utter inability to navigate or remember anything I can't tell you where it is apart from saying it's fairly close to Hyde Park, and possibly somewhere near the V&A museum.

I will wander the streets of London drooling and naked until I find it. Well I don't have to be naked. But I might get free chocolate at the end.

There are two in London. Wander around the posh bits in a south westerly direction and you'll find one of them at least.
I approve of Hotel Chocolat although they reckon their champagne truffles are the best around and they aren't, apart from the ones I make these ones are:

I don't want to discourage you from wandering, drooling, or being naked, but anyway, I think the one I went to might be here: http://www.hotelchocolat.co.uk/images/articles/kensington.jpg

That is WAAAY too close to a tube station for me to have any excuse. The complete wrong side of London, of course. It will have to wait until next week. I will attempt to charm ruudboy into giving me more (if he hasn't eaten it already).

Wow, did you see that?

That was me getting a location wrong by failing to remember and/or navigate. Who would have thought that would ever happen?

i think the reason yr train was early was there were hardly any pesky thameslink trains cluttering up the lines as i found out when trying to get to boreham wood...
