Man, 35, makes potentially catastrophic error of judgement [Jun. 25th, 2007|10:04 am]
Listen in, listen Ian!
I forgot yesterday that I share a house with an girl, and so I
thought I'd put this behind a cut so that when she sees it she wonders what
the hell it is I've done. It's nothing bad, it's just that as a boy I have
no reason at all to ever move the setting on the washing machine away from
the default setting of '4'1 which means 'safely wash all
clothes'. When I did my washing yesterday, I just chucked them all in and
turned it on, only noticing when it was still not finished ages later, that
it was set to '2' whatever the hell that is, and that the temperature dial
was set to 'Max'.

Happily, this had no serious effect and the clothes I washed are still all
different colours, and still fit me to the same extent that they ever did.
The 'easy care' shirts are more creased than when I do them at
40o though.

1And any man who ever changes it is a ponce.

But but... based on this, I am a boy and I'm married to a ponce!

incorrect. the only setting required is -> -> (this meant to be two arrows) which is the setting for Quick Wash and will do for EVERYTHING.

You mean those dial things next to the "Start" button actually move?

Also, what is the point of fabric softener? I never use it and I haven't died yet.

Finally, washing machines (and dishwashers for that matter) should be refuelled more like cars, by emptying lots of powder into the fuel tank in one go and leaving the machine to decide how much to use and when.

Oh no, fabric softener is all right - it means that when you forget to empty the washing machine and leave everything in there all night, it still smells OK.

I like to imagine I might use all the settings on the washing machine one day, but that's just a crazy pipe dream.

Everything on 40! Just like all food must be cooked on Gas Mark 6.

Gas mark 6?

On my oven, I think it's called 2 minutes on full power.

Or 190 in an electric oven. For 15 to 25mins.

Just so everyone knows, it was only for the purposes of my once-in-a-blue-moon white towel wash. Most things are quick wash 40, except darks and delicates at 30.

What trickery is this?
