Oh, for God's sake. If they're going to overhaul the designs, why not take the opportunity to sort out the daft anomalies? Why is a 2p still bigger than a 10p? Why are they both bigger than a 20? "Biggest coin event in British history since decimalisation" my perineum.

I always thought that was good design - size of coin plus colour identifies it immediately. Contrast the 2-euro, which is just not different enough to the €1.

Those are nice coins! I hope to build up a significant collection of them in my wallet.

Not sure why they didn't use the opportunity to make the manhole-cover-like two pence coin a bit smaller though. This will likely be the last chance before the Euros arrive,

I imagine they'll stick to the policy of that being a different commemorative design every year.

Are they changing the fronts or the backs? They only show one side.

It’s a vaguely trendy design that will look horribly outdated within two decades.

Presumably it's the non-queen side, which is the one with the "one penny" writing already. You would have been able to hear my co-workers explosions from space if they were taking the queen off :)

Rub.
I'm switching to Euros.
All the best shops take them.

It's clever how the new 50p can balance on its point eh

I think it's good - quite impressed really. Not sure why they're doing it.

Can somebody make an "I fear change" joke now so that I don't have to?

I absolutely love them.
Exasperated comparison to US currency here.

Might be worth holding onto one of the platinum ones if you get it in your change.
