Listen in, listen Ian!
Insane thing I've just remembered about the New York subway - the exit gates are the same as the entry gates, it just depends who gets there first which way they work. They should introduce that on the Underground, it'd be great.

I went out this afternoon to Liverpool Street and walked over towards Brick Lane and Shoreditch. I got on a bus on Shoreditch High Street to come home, and sat at the front on the top deck. About where Shoreditch High Street becomes Kingsland Road, I noticed a car coming from the other direction turn right infront of the bus. "Fvcking hell," I thought, "there's no way that's going to get across in time." I was right, and all - despite swerving out of the way, the bus clipped the car and as I felt it hit, I noticed the lamp post heading right for me. Fortunately, the bus driver did a hell of a job getting out of the way, but it shook me up a fair bit. The driver of the car didn't stop. Nice.

When I got home, I made excellent pot-roast pork (a variation on this with potatoes instead of apples), did a week's worth of washing up and got my bedroom properly sorted for the first time since I moved in. Excellent! Now: bedtime.

Did you leave a witness statement? The bus driver may need it for his job, and the bus co for the insurance.

No, but I gave the driver my contact details.

The New York subway

And cheap! So cheap!

On the down side (which perhaps becomes the plus side once you know your way around and can be smug about knowing where things are, cf bus routes), I did find the stations very easy to miss.
