Is there anything more annoying than when you're happily working through a recipe, and then halfway through you read the immortal words "marinate for 8 hours or overnight"? Still, I've bunged it in anyway, and I didn't have any szechuan peppercorns either. It should still be tasty I think.

That little bit of fluff in your navel that just won't budge is pretty annoying.

I like recipes that say something like "15 minutes preparation time + 2 hours cooking/waiting", but not many do sensible things like that.

Well, there's not reading the cooking time until you put the shoulder of lamb in the oven and realise it's going to take 4 hours to cook, rather than the anticipated 1-2. I took it out, and did it the next day instead.

And OldBloke remembers a recipe where he prepared one ingredient as required and it was never mentioned again, and then a few lines on he was instructed to add an ingredient that wasn't on the original list, and we didn't have in the house.
