Listen in, listen Ian!
Went to a gig at the Wilmington to see:
Catfish Moofish - excellent Swedish girl-indie, probably edging slightly more to rock than pop but still pretty good.
Moustaches of Insanity - very weird. On one hand, seemed annoyingly lazy and not really taking the whole thing seriouslym by which I don't mean "being po-faced about the whole thing" but "knowing the songs". At the same time though, there was something likeable about them. It's probably a bad sign though that their final song being a cover of Wake Me Up Before You Go-go based on the demo track in the synth made me more amenable to them.
Allo Darlin' - the reason I went, and very good. From early demos which were just Elizabeth Darling on ukulele and vocals they're now a full band, and are really good. The songs are great, and Elizabeth's voice is terrific. Go here and listen to some stuff, particularly Emily and S P A C E Christmas.
Friday: Played poker at shewho's lovely flat. Played two games, finished second in both so ended up a couple of pounds in profit. I also ate lots of mini pizzas, garlic bread and smelly brie - hurrah!
Saturday: Went to atommickbrane's picnic at Primrose Hill in the afternoon, which was lovely and then I went home planning to go out again later to see Daniel Kitson at midnight, only like a great big feckin' idiot I managed to fall asleep on the settee and wake up at just after half past eleven, so that was a bugger.
Sunday: Went to amuchmoreexotic's barbecue, and ate barbecued corn and halloumi and meat and crab, and sat in the sun and talked rubbish, but intelligent highbrow rubbish I'd like to think.
Monday: Went to work. Sigh.
