Listen in, listen Ian!
Hello, Jewish friends. Tell me, could the name Ezra be used as a diminutive for Israel? I'm looking at family tree stuff, and the only candidate birth for my great uncle Ezra is an Israel Emanuel born in the right place and year.

I am qualified to answer, and I can only go by experience, and my experience is that I'd not heard it before. But I didn't pay much attention in my Jewish years. That doesn't help you in the slightest, sorry.
