Listen in, listen Ian!
I made my annual trip to Edmonton today for my eye test, and it appears that I need glasses. I could get away without them, but the optician recommended I get some, and I suppose I should.

I know nothing about glasses though. How do you know what type to buy? How much does a reasonable looking pair cost? I'll obviously lose them/break them all the time won't I?

While I'm in an advice asking mood, what's the team's opinion of cutting old jeans down to make shorts? Is this still acceptable for grownups in the high fashion world of 2010?

I've been wearing glasses for ... about 27 years now. I've never broken a pair, despite my general clumsiness. I suspect needing to be able to see is a factor, but generally, as long as you're wearing them, they're not so easy to break. If you're worried about damage, start with a cheapish pair, so it's not a disaster if something does happen. You don't say if you need to wear them all the time or just for certain tasks... Either way, make sure you like the way they feel on your face!
